Rockets stay top after taming Sharks

Ronaldsway Rockets stay top of the Haldane Fisher League after a hard fought win over Douglas Sharks last Sunday at the NSC with Port Erin moving up to second place.

Ann Gale and Dave McTaggart got the Rockets off to a great start winning both their singles games 11-10 and 11-5 but Stephen Gale got the Sharks first points with a 12-5 victory before Seamus Whelan leveled things up with a 10-7 win. The pairs saw Dave McTaggart & Collin Holland take a win for the Rockets with a 9-6 victory but again the Sharks came back with Matthew Keggen & Stephen Gale winning 16-5. With the match resting on the final game of fours, it started off with a tight few ends but a burst from the Rockets who scored 11 points over 3 ends proved to be too much for the Sharks to come back from, with the Rockets running out 16-7 winners. The Sharks did pick up the bonus point to end up 10-7 down in the match.

Port Erin took advantage of the close game involving the top two with a 13-4 win over Colby Cosmos. Harry Minor & Bernie Durcan won their opening pairs 6-5 before Archie & Wyn Collister added to that with a 10-6 win for Port Erin. The singles continued in the same vein as Archie Collister won 17-1, Wyn Collister took her singles 10-9 and Bernie Durcan won 15-7 before Josh Ffrench finally got some points for Cosmos with a 13-5 win in his singles. With Port Erin in control Colby Cosmos fought back well to draw the fours game 9-9 but an emphatic victory for Port Erin moved them up to second place.
