Michael Collister & Stephen Gale claimed the first silverware of the season with a dominant display in the Peter Coward Pairs League.
Starting the day 5 points clear they only needed a win and a draw to take the title and started with a 17-2 victory over their nearest rivals Claire Hussain & Chris Holland. Seamus Whelan & Collin Holland kept their slim hopes alive with a 13-7 win over Stephen Bradley & James Teare while defending champions Steve & Bernie Durcan won 9-4. Sheila Durcan & Ali Millard got their second win, beating Archie & Wyn Collister 8-7 while Patrick Grant & Dave McCabe won 12-9 over Richard Faragher & Tony Quine.
The second session saw Collister & Gale wrap up the title with a 20-2 victory over Bradley & Teare. The race was on for second place. Whelan & Holland won 15-7 over the Collisters while the Durcans beat Faragher & Quine 13-4. Hussain & Holland won 10-6 over Grant & McCabe. Durcan & Millard got another win with a 12-7 victory over Rita Woodworth.
The final session saw the Durcans level on points with Whelan & Holland and 2 points ahead of Hussain & Holland but the defending champions were up against the new winners in Collister & Gale. The Durcans raced to a 7-1 lead but Collister & Gale fought back to claim a 9-8 victory on the final bowl. Hussain & Holland beat Durcan & Millard 14-5 but Wheland & Holland claimed a draw against Faragher & Quine to take second spot on shot difference.
