Cherry Orchard League – Week Seven

Ramsey Rebels managed to claim the runners-up spot in the Cherry Orchard League last Sunday after beating Castletown Super Threes 4-3 on the final day.

With the Douglas Bay Pirates already confirmed as Champions it was only the Rebels who could overtake Ballaugh in second place as they had their bye week. It started badly for the Rebels as Matt Quayle & Peter Blower got the Super Threes off to an impressive start with an 18-3 win in the pairs but Jill Quayle fought back for the Rebels by winning her singles 10-9 before teaming up with John Jauncey & Moira Anderson to take the triples 11-2 and overtake Ballaugh to finish second in the league by a single point.

Ronaldsway Blockbusters inflicted the first defeat for the new Champions after beating Douglas Bay Pirates 4-3. Josh Ffrench & Michael Collister drew the singles with Blockbusters Wyn Collister & Chris Holland before Collin Holland put the Blockbusters ahead with a 10-6 victory in the singles. The Pirates hit back in the triples with a 9-7 win but it wasn’t enough to claim the bonus point and Blockbuster took the win.

In the other game of the day Colby Cosmos beat Laxey Minors 5-2. Ann Hollingworth & Rita Woodworth took a narrow win in the pairs with an 11-10 win before Seamus Whelen leveled the match with a 9-8 win in his singles. With the match all coming down to the triples, it was Cosmos who took the spoils with a 10-4 win.
