4 Bowl Pairs Championship

David Cottier & Peter Coward lifted the 4 Bowl Pairs Championship last Sunday at the NSC after beating Ramsey duo Jill Quayle & Eric Maddocks in a brilliant final.

The day started with the eventual champions beating another Ramsey pair Moira Anderson & John Jauncey 9-6. Defending champion Stephen Gale, playing with Josh Ffrench beat last years runners-up Seamus Whelan & Collin Holland 8-4 and Emma Smith & Jayne Smith beat Chris Holland & Ann Hollingworth by the same scoreline.

The semi-final saw Cottier & Coward keep up their impressive form with a fine 11-4 victory against the Smiths. Never looking back after creating a 4-0 lead for themselves in the opening couple of ends. The other semi-final saw Jill Quayle & Eric Maddocks play their first game after receiving a bye in the first round against Gale & Ffrench. Quayle & Maddocks found themselves 6-3 down with three ends to play but some terrific bowling saw them win it on the final end 7-6.

The final was a closely fought battle with some great bowls played on both sides. Quayle & Maddocks were bowling well and consistently picking up single points but Cottier & Coward scores heavily at times, including a 4 on the fourth end. With the scores level with two ends to play Cottier & Coward picked up a 3 to make them strong favourites. Despite some excellent firing from Maddocks he was unable to save the game, finishing with a 2 on the final end to see Cottier & Coward lift the title with a 9-8 win.

Next week action returns to the Cherry Orchard League, with leaders Ronaldsway Blockbusters meeting second placed Douglas Bay Pirates. Laxey Minors face Ballaugh and Colby Cosmos play Castletown Super Threes.
