Tony Quine & Jayne Smith set up final

Tony Quine from Ballaugh will meet Jayne Smith in the first Handicap 4 Bowl Singles final, sponsored by David Cottier next week after coming through their knockout round in impressive style.

Quine was pushed close by Steve Durcan in the first round, who had to give away 9 shots over the 12 ends but still managed to force the match down to the last end. Unfoortunately for Durcan, Quine had the bowls to run out a 16-10 winner. On the other side of the draw Jayne Smith beat her Mother Chris Holland 18-9 after benefiting from a 7 shot head start in the preliminary round before facing Ann Gale who she beat 16-8.

In the quarter-finals Smith had to give Alison Millard a 14 shot advantage but fought back well to take the game 20-16. Stephen Bradley was also making good progress after beating fellow Ballaugh bowler Richard Faragher 15-14 and then taking a victory against Ann Hollingworth 17-8. Meanwhile Tony Quine beat David Cottier 24-5 to set up a semi-final against Pat Mason who came through 15-13 thanks to a great final bowl to beat Seamus Whelan.

The semi-finals were both dominated by the eventual finalists, with Tony Quine quickly making up the 3 shots he had to give away to Pat Mason to come out a 17-4 winner and Jayne Smith didn’t let Stephen Bradley score a point to make up the 6 points she had to give away and won 24-6.

Next weeks final is sure to be a great game, with Tony Quine starting with a 4 shot advantage. It is also the return of the Cherry Orchard League next week with current leaders Ronaldsway Blockbusters facing Douglas Destoyers, while Erin Elite meet Colby, Douglas Bay Pirates play Laxey Minors and the Ballaugh derby between Ballaugh & Ballaugh B.
