Blockbusters take huge step towards the Cherry Orchard League title

Ronaldsway Blockbusters opened up a 6 point gap at the top of the Cherry Orchard League thanks to a walkover after Peel Musketeers forfeited their second match of the season.

Douglas Bay Pirates who started the day a point behind knew they had to have a big result against Colby Cosmos to stay in touch and got off to a bad start with Ann Hollingworth taking the first singles 23-4 for the Cosmos. Michael Collister hit back with a 11-9 victory before Stephen Gale made up the chalk difference with a 20-1 win for the Pirates. The triples was an extremely tight game with Pirates leading by one before a two on the penultimate end but the Cosmos in front. Having already killed the end twice their was little the Pirates could do to take the victory, eventually losing the game 7-3.

Laxey Minors moved up to third place with a 9-0 win over Andreas. Archie Collister won his singles 13-7 and David Cottier added to that with an 11-7 victory before Wyn Collister won her game 10-6. They completed the victory with a 10-3 win in the triples to take maximum points.

Port Erin New Kids also jumped up the table to fourth with an impressive 9-0 win over Ballaugh. Harry Minor won his singles game 10-7 before Steven Durcan took his 11-1. Bernie Durcan won his game 13-5. The triples was a close game but the Port Erin side came out on top to win 9-7.
