Cherry Orchard League – Week Two

Douglas Bay Pirates continued their 100% start to the season in the Cherry Orchard League with a 7-0 win over Ronaldsway Blockbusters last Sunday at the NSC.

Josh Ffrench & Jayne Smith got the Pirates off to the perfect start with a 12-3 win in the pairs before Stephen Gale added the singles with a 13-5 victory. The Pirates took the maximum points on offer after taking the triples 13-4.

Colby Cosmos moved up to second place in the table after an impressive 6-1 win against Laxey Minors. Carol Kaye & Ann Hollingworth won the opening pairs game 15-5 for Cosmos and Rita Woodworth took the singles 16-5 . Laxey regrouped well though and managed to salvage a point in the triples with 6-6 draw.

The final game of the day saw a tight match between Colby Jacks and Ballaugh. Ann Gale & Dave McTaggart won the pairs for Ballaugh with a 12-8 win but Peter Blower leveled the match for the Jacks after winning his singles 14-7. Ballaugh managed to win the triples 9-7 to win the match but it wasn’t enough to take the bonus point, meaning they ran out 4-3 winners.
