Ronaldsway Blockbusters take control in Cherry Orchard League

The Ronaldsway Blockbusters produced an excellent display to beat Ballaugh 9-0 in the Cherry Orchard League to top the table by 8 points from the Douglas Bay Pirates.

Collin Holland had a close game against Dave McTaggart, coming through 9-8 before Seamus Whelan won 11-6 and Chris Holland continued her impressive start to the season with a 13-2 victory. Their form continued in the triples as they ran out 13-3 winners and complete the 9-0 win in the match.

Douglas Bay Pirates moved up to second place after a 7-2 victory over Port Erin New Kids. Steven Durcan won his singles 10-9 for Port Erin but Stephen Gale leveled the game for the Pirates with a 14-4 victory before Michael Collister won 10-9 in his match. The Pirates took the triples game as well with a 14-3 win. The result leaves Port Erin New Kids in 5th place in the table.

Colby Cosmos closed the gap on the teams above them with a 7-2 win over Laxey Minors. Archie Collister got the only points for the Minors with an 11-7 win before Ann Hollingworth (11-6) and Sylvia Maddrell (15-5) put the Cosmos in control. The triples also went to the Cosmos with a convincing 12-1 win.

The bottom two teams battled it out in a close fought encounter as Peel Musketeers came out narrow 5-4 winners over newcomers Andreas. Georgina Moore won her opening game for the Musketeers 10-9 but Mike Buckeridge hit back for Andreas with a 13-6 win. Josh Ffrench then took his singles game for the Musketeers 20-5. Andreas fought back again though in the triples, winning 9-6 but it wasn’t enough to take the bonus point on chalks as Peel Musketeers ran out 5-4 victors.

Next week action returns to the Haldane Fisher League with the top two of Ronaldsway Jollybodies & Douglas Sharks play each other while Colby Cosmos face Port Erin.
