Blockbusters stretch lead to 9 points in Cherry Orchard League

Ronaldsway Blockbusters had a narrow 5-4 win over Port Erin New Kids last Sunday at the NSC as they moved 9 points clear of Ballaugh in second place in the Cherry Orchard League.

Bernie Durcan got the Port Erin side off to a great start with a 12-7 win but Collin Holland hot back for the leaders with a 14-2 victory before Chris Holland put the Blockbusters ahead with a 13-7 win in her singles.  The triples was a low scoring tight affair with the scores level at 4-4 going in to the last end and it was the New Kids who took it, winning the triples 5-4 but losing the match by the same score as the Blockbusters took the bonus point thanks to a superior chalks difference.

With the Douglas Bay Pirates & Peel Musketeers game abandoned, Ballaugh took their chance to move up to second place with a 6-3 win over Laxey Minors. Ann Gale took the opening game of singles for Ballaugh with a 13-9 victory before Dave McTaggart and Archie Collister drew 8-8. David Cottier leveled the match for Laxey with a 10-5 win in his singles game. Ballaugh edged the triples and thanks to a 10-8 victory they snatched the bonus point by one chalk and took the match 6-3.

Andreas moved off the bottom of the table despite losing 5-4 to Colby Cosmos who move in to 4th place. Sylvia Maddrell & Ann Hollingworth got Cosmos off to a flyer thanks to 14-2 & 16-3 wins respectively but Stephen Bradley kept Andreas in the match with an 8-5 victory in his singles game. Andreas also took the triples with a 5-4 win on the last end but it wasn’t enough to claim the bonus point which went to the Cosmos to leave them as 5-4 victors.
