Rockets increase lead in Haldane Fisher League

Ronaldsway Rockets recorded an impressive 12-5 victory over Port Erin in the Haldane Fisher League to increase their lead to 9 points with just one game remaining.

Ann Gale & Chris Holland got the Rockets off to a great start with a 17-2 victory while Dave McTaggart & Collin Holland drew 8-8 with Archie & Wyn Collister. The singles all went the way of the Rockets with Ann Gale winning 9-5, Dave McTaggart taking his match 10-6, Chris Holland won her game 9-4 and Collin Holland won 17-3. However Port Erin showed just what they can do in the final game of fours when they recorded an 11-2 victory.

In the other game of the day, Colby Cosmos beat Douglas Sharks 9-8 in closely fought match. Cosmos won the opening pairs with Ann Hollingworth & Rita Woodworth winning their game 8-6 and Matt Quayle & Sylvia Maddrell taking theirs 8-7. David Cottier then added to that in the singles with a 10-3 victory before Richard Faragher got the Sharks first points with a 10-6 win. Ann Hollingworth then took her singles 15-3 for Cosmos before Stephen Gale kept the Sharks in the match with a 14-4 win. With the Sharks needing to make up 8 chalks in the final game to take the bonus point they were leading 11-3 with two ends remaining, however a 3 on the penultimate end for Cosmos ensures that they would take the bonus point with the final game of fours ending up 12-6 to the Sharks, just 2 chalks short of taking the overall win.
