Douglas Bay Pirates were the big winners in last Sunday’s Cherry Orchard League as the beat leader Ronaldsway Blockbusters 7-2 to leave themselves a point behind with two games to play.
The Pirates took the opening game of triples 8-6 thanks to Stephen Gale’s last bowl taking a 3. Collin Holland hit back for the Blockbusters in the singles, this time he took 2 on the last end to secure a 7-6 victory. The Pirates then pulled away, first with Michael Collister winning his singles 8-5 and the Stephen Gale winning 10-4 to complete the victory for the Pirates.
Ballaugh kept themselves in touch in third place after a 6-3 win over Andreas. Mike Buckeridge got Andreas off to a great start with a 12-8 win in the singles before Tony Quine & Ann Gale drew there game 9-9. Richard Faragher then got Ballaugh’s first win with a 10-4 victory. Ballaugh came out on top in the triples, winning 11-7 to take the bonus point which leaves 4 points behind the Pirates in the table.
Port Erin New Kids continued their impressive debut with a 7-2 win over Colby Cosmos. Sylvia Maddrell got Cosmos’ only win with a 15-3 victory before Bernie Durcan won 17-2 and Steven Durcan won 10-7. The triples went to the wire and thanks to a brilliant last bowl by Steven Durcan, the New Kids ran out 6-5 winners.
