Ronaldsway Blockbusters take the Cherry Orchard League title

Ronaldsway Blockbusters took the Cherry Orchard League title by 5 points after a 4-4 draw against third place Laxey Minors was enough to see them over the finishing line.

Needing 4 points to make sure of the title, Blockbusters started nervously with Archie Collister taking the first singles game for the Laxey Minors 15-8 against Collin Holland. Douglas Bay Pirates who were sitting in second place took advantage as Stephen Gale won his singles 12-5. Chris Holland got the Blockbusters back on track with a fine 11-5 victory as the Pirates kept the pressure on with Eddie Brew winning 10-7 for the Pirates. Wyn Collister then produced an amazing fight back, winning 10-9 against Seamus Whelan after trailing 8-1. The Pirates couldn’t apply any more pressure however as Matthew Keggen lost 8-10 to Maureen Trustham which meant that Ronaldsway Blockbusters had done enough to take the title. The final game of triples saw Blockbusters win 7-5 to lever the match 4-4 and tie the game on chalks as well so no bonus point was awarded. The Pirates fell to a 7-4 loss but still managed to take a 5-4 victory to seal the runners-up spot.

Port Erin New Kids finished 4th in their impressive debut season after a 5-4 win over Andreas who settle for 7th, also their first season. Tony Quine won the opening game for Andreas 10-7 before Steven Durcan took his singles for Port Erin 11-7. Bernie Durcan & Steve Bradley then drew the final singles game 8-8. The triples also finish 8-8 and Port Erin claimed the bonus point by one shot to finish as 5-4 victors.

Peel Musketeers ended a disappointing season on a high with a 7-2 win over Colby Cosmos. Josh Ffrench took the opening singles for the Musketeers with a 9-6 win before Sylvia Maddrell leveled the game with a 10-7 win. Jayne Smith then took the last singles 13-4 before the Musketeers completed the win with a 10-4 victory in the triples.
