Douglas Bay Pirates eased to the Cherry Orchard League title last Sunday at the NSC after beating second place Ronaldsway Blockbusters 7-2.
The Blockbusters has to win 9-0 to overtake the Pirates to the top spot and Collin Holland got them off to a good start, beating Eric Maddocks 21-2 but Michael Collister clinched the all important points for the Pirates with a 14-11 victory over Chris Holland. Stephen Gale then finished off the singles with a 19-4 win over Seamus Whelan. The triples game was very close throughout but the Pirates scored a 5 on the last end to take it 9-5 and finish on top of the Cherry Orchard League by 13 points.
Douglas Destroyers finished third with a 6-3 win over Ballaugh B. Stephen Bradley got the Ballaugh B side off with the mark with a 14-9 win in the singles before Pat Mason & Harry Minor drew 13-13 in the next game. Eddie Brew then put the Destroyers back on level terms with a 14-6 win in his singles match. The Destroyers went on the take the triples 13-3 which secured them the bonus point and third spot in the league.
Erin Elite had to settle for fourth place after they slipped to a 5-4 defeat at the hands of Ballaugh. Richard Faragher won 16-7 for Ballaugh before Bernie Durcan hit back for Erin Elite, winning his game 13-6. Ann Gale then put Ballaugh back in control with a superb 20-2 win. Erin Elite took the triples 8-3 but it wasn;t enough to claim the bonus point.
Colby claimed the biggest win of the day with a 9-0 victory over Laxey Minors. Sylvia Maddrell got them going with a 12-5 win over Archie Collister. Ann Hollingworth then took her singles game 13-8 before Matt Quayle beat Wyn COllister 10-9. The triples saw the Colby side edge out 8-7 victors to take the maximum 9 points from their final game.
