Pirates edge closer to Cherry Orchard League title

Douglas Bay Pirates beat Douglas Destroyers 7-2 last Sunday at the NSC to increase their lead to 8 points with one game remaining in the Cherry Orchard League.

Douglas Destroyers won the opening game as Eddie Brew beat Michael Collister 10-8 but Eric Maddocks nut the Pirates back on level terms with a 19-6 win over James Teare before Stephen Gale won 24-3 against Harry Minor. The triples also went the way of the Pirates with a 23-1 victory including a 6 on the last end.

Ronaldsway Blockbusters remain second after a 6-3 victory over Erin Elite. Chris Holland beat Linsey Durcan 10-6 for the Blockbusters but Bernie Durcan beat Seamus Whelan 17-8 before Collin Holland put the Blockbusters back in control with an 11-9 victory over Steve Durcan. Colby moved up to fifth place with a 9-0 victory over Ballaugh. Sylvia Maddrell got the ball rolling for Colby with a 13-5 victory over Richard Faragher before Ann Hollingworth won her game 19-3 against Dave McTaggart and Matt Quayle beat Ann Gale 13-10. Colby wrapped up that game with an 11-4 win in the triples.
