MSMBA 2 Bowl Pairs

Seamus Whelan & Collin Holland won the 2 Bowl Pairs title at the NSC last Sunday after a pulsating final saw them beat defending champions Josh Ffrench & Stephen Gale 13-12.

The first round was played as two groups of 3 in a round robin format. Whelan & Holland were drawn with David Cottier & Peter Coward and Richard Faragher & Rita Woodworth. Whelan & Holland came through both after initially struggling in their first game against Cottier & Coward. They found themselves 6-2 down but from the 5th end of the game never looked back, stretching out to a 17-6 win. The second game against Faragher & Woodworth was also very close early on with the eventual champions leading 6-5 half way through but just like before they managed to take a commanding lead in the game and finish up 15-7. The final game of the group saw Faragher & Woodworth fightback from 10-4 down against Cottier & Coward to tie the match at 10-10.

In the other group Ffrench & Gale took an early command of both games. Their first game saw them run out 21-6 winners over Archie & Wyn Collister before continuing their good form with a 24-4 win over Chris Holland & Michael Collister. The final game in that group went to Archie & Wyn Collister, beating Chris Holland & Michael Collister 11-9.

The final saw Ffrench & Gale start where they left off in the group stages, managing to take a 10-4 lead after 7 ends but Whelan & Holland fought back brilliantly by winning the next 5 ends to lead 12-10 with 3 ends to play. A single each on the next 2 ends meant that Ffrench & Gale needed 2 to tie the game but unfortunately for them just missed out by millimetres with the very last wood, having to settle for one to finish up 13-12 to Whelan & Holland.

Next week sees a return to the Cherry Orchard League with Ballaugh facing Colby Cosmos, Laxey Minors meeting Douglas Bay Pirates and Casteltown Super Threes playing Ronaldsway Blockbusters.
