Ballaugh trio Richard Faragher, Ann Gale & Dave McTaggart won the Ann Hollingworth Triples competition last Sunday at the NSC, snatching the victory after three teams finsihed level on points in the round robin format.
With 5 teams entered it was a competitive day of bowls which went down to the wire. The first round of games saw McTaggart’s side sit out and Matt Quayle, Eddie Brew & Stephen Gale take an early advantage after beating David Cottier, Ray Hands & Seamus Whelan 16-2. Collin Holland, Clare Hussain & Chris Holland won their opening game 11-9 against Carol Kaye, Rita Woodworth & Ann Hollingworth.
The second round of games saw Gale’s team increase their lead in the group with a 10-4 win over McTaggart’s side, with Holland’s trio also beating Whelan’s team 9-4.
Gale’s side looked in control after sitting out the third round of games with Richard Faragher, Ann Gale & Dave McTaggart getting their first win, a 9-4 victory over the previously unbeaten Holland side. Whelan’s triples also got their first win with a 9-3 victory against Hollingworth’s team.
The fourth round saw Gale’s team remain undefeated with an 11-7 win over Hollingworth but McTaggart side were still in with a chance after beating David Cottier, Ray Hands & Seamus Whelan 7-6.
A big swing was needed in the final round of games if McTaggart’s or Holland’s teams were going to overturn the lead by Gale’s three. McTaggart did their part with a 16-6 win over Carol Kaye, Rita Woodworth & Ann Hollingworth and Gale’s team collapsed to 14-3 defeat to Holland’s side. After McTaggart, Gale & Holland had all ended up winning 3 games each it was Richard Faragher, Ann Gale & Dave McTaggart who took the title by a difference of 4 chalks. Matt Quayle, Eddie Brew & Stephen Gale finished second by scoring 3 more chalks than Collin Holland, Clare Hussain & Chris Holland.
