Haldane Fisher Fours League – Week One

Ronaldsway Rockets started the defense of their Fours League title with a fine 11-6 win over Colby Cosmos.

The Rockets started the day in fine form with Ann Gale & Chris Holland winning 11-5 in the pairs and Dave McTaggart & Collin Holland adding to that with a 14-7 victory. In the singles David Cottier recorded the first win for the Cosmos with a 13-8 win but the Rockets added the next three games with Dave McTaggart (13-8), Chris Holland (17-2) & Collin Holland (11-7) all winning their singles. Colby Cosmos did hit back well in the fours game with a fine 11-2 victory but the Rockets came out with a comfortable 11-6 win.

In the other match Rushen took on a weakened Colby Jacks side who played with a player short. The Jacks put up a valiant fight with Matt Quayle & Eddie Brew winning the opening pairs game with an impressive 18-1 victory, however Seamus Whelan & Stephen Gale won their pairs game 20-0. Matt Quayle & Eddie Brew continued their good form with wins in the single. Quayle won 10-6 while Brew won 12-1. Stephen Gale won his singles with a 19-5 victory. Rushen had edged ahead and the game rested on the outcome of the final game of fours. Despite playing with a player less the Jacks held their own until Rushen pulled away in the final ends of the match, running out 7-4 winners and clinching a hard fought 11-6 victory.

Next week will see the Isle of Man national champions have a final practice before heading off to play in the British Isles Championships in Potters, England.
