Ronaldsway Rockets continued their good start to the season with a 9-8 win over Rushen in the Freeway Express Championship, while Ramsey Rebels beat Castletown Rockets 11-6 in their match.
Ronaldsway Rockets started well with Dave McTaggert and Collin Holland winning their game of pairs 12-1 but Rushen managed to level with with Richard Fargher and Seamus Whelan winning 13-7. The Rockets pulled away in the singles with Ann Gale winning 12-6, Chris Holland coming through a tight game 7-5 and Collin Holland winning 10-6 before Stephen Gale taking a 17-5 win to leave Rushen some hope. Rushen managed to level the game with a 7-5 victory in the final fours game, but it wasn’t enough to claim the bonus point which went to the Rockets to leave them as 9-8 victors.
In the other match, Ramsey Rebels got off to a flyer, winning both pairs games. Moira Anderson & John Jauncey won the first 11-6 before Eric Maddocks & Pauline Kelly took theirs with a 10-4 win. However Castletown Rockets hit back in the singles with Brian Redman winning 9-8, Peter Blower securing an 11-4 victory and Sylvia Maddrell winning 12-7. Eric Maddocks won his singles for the Rebels 17-3. The final fours game saw the Rebels complete the victory with a tight 8-7 win to end up 11-6 winners.
Next week will see the Island team prepare for the British Isles Championships which will be hosted at the NSC on the 20th & 21st November. Practices will be at the NSC on Friday 12th at 8pm, Saturday 13th at 5pm and Sunday 14th at 1pm.
