Ronaldsway Rockets took an early advantage in the Freeway Express Championship, beating Port Erin Blockbusters 12-5 while Rushen managed a hard fought 9-8 victory over Colby Cosmos.
Port Erin started off well against the Rockets with Michael Collister & Josh Ffrench winning their pairs 13-2 and Wyn Collister & Archie Collister drawing 8-8 with Ann Gale & Chris Holland. The singles were dominated by the Rockets, with Dave McTaggert (12-8), Ann Gale (8-6) and Collin Holland (11-3) all winning. Michael Collister managed to win his singles for Port Erin 11-10. The Rockets secured the match with the final game of fours, coming away with a comfortable 12-2 victory.
The other match saw Rushen get off to a great start with Peter Coward & Stephen Gale winning their pairs 12-6 and Richard Faragher & Seamus Whelan taking their pairs game 13-6. The teams shared the singles with Stephen Gale (13-3) and Peter Coward (11-7) winning their games for Rushen and Ann Hollingworth (17-4) and Rita Woodworth (9-4) getting the first points for Colby. The final game of fours saw the Cosmos win with a 9-3 win which just wasn’t enough to take the bonus point away from Rushen who scraped to a 9-8 win.
