Ronaldsway Rockets top at halfway stage

Competitive short mat bowls got back underway after the flood damage to the NSC with the Haldane Fisher Fours League getting started at Ballaugh Bowls Club last Sunday, and after the first half of fixtures were completed it is Ronaldsway Rockets leading the way from Douglas Sharks.

The first round of games saw comfortable wins for the top two with Ronaldsway Rockets (Ann Gale, Bernard Kaighin, Eric Maddocks & Chris Holland) beating Ballaugh 12-4 and Collin Holland, Seamus Whelan, Michael Collister & Stephen Gale for Douglas Sharks winning their first match 8-4 over Erin Elite.

The second round saw the top two meet and it was the Rockets who claimed the top spot with a superb last end to win 10-6 against the Sharks. Erin Elite claimed their first victory with a 9-7 victory over Ballaugh.

The last set of games for the day saw Ronaldsway Rockets hold on to their 100% record with a 8-7 victory over Erin Elite, where Douglas Sharks bounced back to win 12-6 against Ballaugh.

The teams will all meet again next week to fight it out for the title, while the Isle of Man team will meet for a practice at Morten Hall in Castletown on Tuesday evening at 7pm.
