Cherry Orchard League – Week Six

Douglas Bay Pirates secured their second successive Cherry Orchard League title last Sunday at the NSC with a game to spare after beating Castletown Super Threes 6-1.

The Pirates got off to a great start with Jayne Smith & Michael Collister winning the pairs 18-1 before Stephen Gale shared the points in the Singles with Castletown’s Sylvia Maddrell in a game that ended 8-8. The triples saw the Pirates come away with a 15-3 win which left them 7 points clear of Ballaugh in second who were playing their last game of the season.

Ballaugh stayed in second place thanks to a 4-3 over Ronaldsway Blockbusters. It was the Blockbusters who struck first with Wyn Collister & Chris Holland taking the pairs with a 13-6 victory but Richard Faragher leveled the match with a 12-8 win in his singles before teaming up with Ann Gale & Dave McTaggert to take a nail biting triples 7-6.

Ramsey Rebels had the biggest win of the afternoon with a 7-0 victory over Colby Cosmos. Jill Quayle & John Jauncey won the pairs 11-5 and Moira Anderon added the singles with an impressive 16-5 victory before taking the triples 8-4 to complete the day with a 100% record and move up to 3rd place in the table.

Next week is the final week of the Pairs League Chris Holland & John Jauncey, Michael Collister & Stephen Gale and Seamus Whelan & Collin Holland all still in with a chance of taking the title.
