Ronaldsway Blockbusters go ahead of Ballaugh

Ronaldsway Blockbusters go ahead of Ballaugh to top the leader board in the second game of the CHERRY ORCHARD League.

Laxey Minors versus Douglas Bay Pirates. Laxey started off well in the Singles with a 13-5 win for Archie Collister, but Clare Hussain managed 9-9 draw to bring Douglas Bay back into the game coupled with Michael Collister winning 12-7 meant both sides had 3 points. But in the Triples Laxey came out on top winning 13-9 this was enough to take the game 6-3 on points.

Peel Musketeers versus Port Erin New Kids, Port Erin raced into the lead with Bernie Durcan and Steve Durcan both winning their Singles games 13-6 but Josh Ffrench for Peel pulled one back with a 14-9 win. In the Triples Port Erin were too strong for Peel winning 8-3 to take 7-2 points from their game, these first timers to short mat are the ones to watch.

Colby Cosmos versus Ballaugh. In the Singles Colby’s Sylvia Maddrell had a terrific tussle with Ann Gale that ended in a draw 7-7. For Ballaugh Dave McTaggart and Richard Faragher both won 12-4 and 17-5 respectively.

Colby were determined put their all into the game and won the Triples 11-3. Ballaugh game 1 League Leaders took the spoils 6-3 point.

Ronaldsway Blockbusters versus Andreas. Ronaldsway took all their Singles games with Collin Holland 12-2, Seamus Whelan 9-5 and Chris Holland with the highest score of the day 19-1.

In the Triples, Ronaldsway won 17-1, although the score does not justify the efforts of first timers Ballaugh. Ronaldsway won 9-0 to go to the top of the leader board, but with plenty of games left I am sure this will change.

Stephen Gale playing in the Short Mat Players Tour in Belgium made it through the Round Robin stage to the Main Competition and ended up just losing 12-11 in the Quarters, well done Stephen against top players from Europe and flying the Manx flag.
