Pirates stay on course for the Cherry Orchard League

Douglas Bay Pirates increased their lead to 7 points at the top of the Cherry Orchard League last Sunday at the NSC after 9-0 victory over Ballaugh B despite being down a player.

Michael Collister took the opening game of singles 22-5 before Stephen Gale had to fight back from 8-1 down against Tony Quine to win 14-9. Michael Collister was than drawn to play the final singles game and took it 17-4. Despite being a player short, the Pirates managed to take the triples 11-2.

Ronaldsway Blockbusters stayed in second but lost ground on the leaders after a 7-2 victory over Ballaugh. The Blockbusters won all their singles games with Chris Holland winning 22-3 while Collin Holland took a 14-6 victory before Seamus Whelan won his singles game 13-4. Ballaugh hit back in the triples however taking a superb 8-2 victory.

Erin Elite kept their good season going with a 7-2 victory over Laxey Minors. Wyn Collister won the first game for the Laxey side with an 11-10 victory over Linsey Durcan. Bernie Durcan levelled the match with a 16-6 win before Steve Durcan took his singles game 18-4. The Port Erin side went on to claim the triples with a 9-4 win.

Colby were unable to field a team so Douglas Detroyers were awarded a 7-0 victory to keep them in third place.
