Ronaldsway Blockbusters jump to the top of the Cherry Orchard League

Ronaldsway Blockbusters leapfrogged Laxey Minors & Douglas Bay Pirates to top the Cherry Orchard League after 3 games with a 9-0 demolition of Colby last Sunday at the NSC.

Chris Holland got the Blockbusters going with a 19-2 victory over Stephen Bradley before Josh Ffrench beat Rita Woodworth 16-5. Seams Whelan then took a 22-2 win over Sylvia Maddrell before a 16-2 victory in the triples saw them take the maximum number of points with a shot difference of 73-11.

Douglas Bay Pirates remain in second after a 7-2 victory over Erin Elite. Clare Hussain beat Alison Millard 18-5 for the Pirates before Stephen Gale extended the lead with a 39-0 victory over Sheila Durcan. Bernie Durcan managed to get two points back for the Port Erin side with an 11-9 win over Michael Collister. The Pirates then took the triples 14-3 to win the match 7-2.

Laxey Minors drop to third place after a 4-4 draw with Ballaugh. Richard Faragher won his opening singles match for Ballugh with a 16-8 victory over Arhcie Collister but David Cottier leveled things up with a 12-4 win over Tony Quine. Ann Gale then beat Wyn Collister 12-8 to put Ballaugh back in the lead. The triples saw Laxey run out 10-6 winners which meant the shots were tied so no bonus point was won.

Douglas Townies move up to fourth after a 7-2 win agains Douglas Destroyers. Bernie Haghin won the opening game 15-9 over Harry Minor before Eric Maddocks beat James Teare 17-7 and Jayne Smith won 10-7 over Eddie Brew. The Destroyers hot back in the triples however, clinching the game 8-7 to salvage two points.

Next week sees leader Ronaldsway Blockbusters face Erin Elite while Douglas Bay Pirates meet Ballaugh. Colby play Douglas Townies and Laxey Minors are up against Douglas Detroyers.
