Dave Thompson, Patrick Grant & Stephen Gale won the drawn triples competition at Ballaugh Bowling Club after win all 4 games in the round-robin tournament.

With 15 players being drawn randomly into 5 teams of 3, the experienced Stephen Gale was drawn with junior and total newcomer Dave Thompson, but that didn’t stop any of them as they started off with 7-6 win over Ali Millard, Clare Hussain & Seamus Whelan. On the other mat the team of Tony Quine, Chris Holland & Collin Holland beats James Teare, Richard Faragher & Dave McCabe 9-7.

The second round of matches saw Gale’s side come through 9-4 over McCabe’s ttiples while Holland’s team beat the Ballaugh trio of John Garret, Mary Bailey & Mike Buckeridge 18-2.

The third round saw Gale’s side sit out and Whelan’s triples put a dent in Holland’s hopes of claiming the title with a 6-5 victory. Buckeridge’s triples recorded their first win with a 6-4 win over MCcabe’s team.

The penultimate round of matches saw Gale’s side beat Buckeridge’s team 15-2 while Whelan’s team came through a high scoring match 16-12 against McCabe’s team.

The final round of games saw Gale’s side up against Holland’s team, knowing a point would be enough. They raced in to a 6-0 lead and had the game won on the penultimate end. Holland picked up a 5 on the last end to leave the score 8-6. Whelan’s team claimed the runner-up spot after beating Buckeridge’s side 9-3.
