Jayne Smith & Stephen Gale did enough last Sunday at the NSC to wrap up the title in the Peter Coward Pairs League with 3 sessions to play after winning 3 matches & drawing 1.
They started the day with a 19-2 victory over Ali Millard (replacing Pat Mason this week) & Tony Quine before a 10-7 win against Sheila & Bernie Durcan. A 15-2 win over Chris Holland & Harry Minor followed meant that just avoiding defeat to their nearest rivals, Seamus Whelan & Collin Holland would see them claim the title, which they managed to do on the last end with an 8-8 draw.
The draw for Whelan & Holland keeps them 4 points clear of Sheila & Bernie Durcan, although the Durcan’s do have a game in hand so will be hoping to keep the pressure on in the race for second place. James Teare & Stephen Bradley are up to 4th place, a point clear of Tony Quine & Pat Mason who also have a game in hand and still have outside hopes of a top three finish.
The table with three sessions to play is:
